Noteflight

Using notation software like Noteflight, allows for students to be creative and discover what it means to compose music utilizing technological assistance. Noteflight is easily accessible via online and easy to navigate. Overall the program allows teachers and students to develop creativity and musical growth. Noteflight allows for several constraints to be utilized. Teachers are able to create a template through the program that can be shared with students to be able to work and add a section of the piece. As students compose, the score may be shared with the teacher and with others for review and critiques. Being able to critique as the composition is in progress allows for ideas to be explored and find the best outcome. Creating a music score may be compared to writing a paper. Often as students learn to write papers, teachers create a process with constraints that allow for students to have checkpoints along the way that include critiques to improve or explore ideas further to create a well-thought out paper. Through the use of the template and/or guidelines, teachers can provide students with the ability to grow creatively in their musical choices through the use of expression, articulation, instrumental choices, melody lines, or accompaniment lines.
